CraftViewer
Hi folks: Sorry I'm tardy lately with posting, but like many of you, I've been frantically busy getting work done for the season. Last weekend was the 2nd In Plain View Studio Tour. It appears to have been a smashing success for most participants, and I certainly was pleased with the results. We have done some research into tours in other cities, and there are dozens out there. Many have been a regular event for years.
John Sloboda, past owner of the Ceramic Greenhouse Ltd, who retired after 41 years in the ceramic business, is finding that he has too much time on his hands and is wondering if there is anybody who might be interested in his services, for 1 or 2 days per week. Minimum wage would be acceptable. If interested, please call and we can discuss it. e-mail, gandjs@mts.net or phone 269-0140.
From Gaetan at MCC:
Seasons GreetingsIt has been some time since the general meeting in September and the Interim Board feels it's time we let you know of the progress to date. Sadly, the assets had to be sold in October. The free storage space was about to be rented out, however the proceeds (just under $4,000) from the sale were applied against the outstanding line of credit reducing the balance to $11,409. Thanks to all who gave of their time to help with this difficult task. The Crafts Council records have been sorted and boxed ready to transfer to the Provincial Archives where they will be stored safely and will be available to the Crafts Council in future should the need arise. Thanks to Susan Styrchak and Don Burroughs for their time and patience in sorting through the records. Salaries for two of the former staff and source deductions have been paid. T4's will be issued prior to closing the Revenue Canada tax account. Looking to the future; additional funding has been secured from Culture and Heritage which will allow us to keep Directors Liability insurance in place, and keep the web-site updated and open. You should be getting notice about how to update your personal page soon. The financial audit is nearing completion, as is the arts consultant's survey of the craft sector in Canada, and one or two successful craft councils abroad. We will be using some of the findings of that research to provide us with a basis for the membership survey which will be carried out in the near future. When the surveys have been completed we will be contacting you again, until then, the Interim Board wishes you and yours All the very best in the New Year

SALES GALLERY CALL FOR ARTISTS
For nearly 70 years, Contemporary Crafts Museum & Gallery has made a significant impact on the American craft movement from its quiet location in the historical Lair Hill neighborhood in Portland. Having outgrown the size of its first home, and also with the intention of becoming a more visible and accessible destination, the organization is preparing for a big move in July 2007. Its new site — poised between Portland's Pearl District and Oldtown/Chinatown on the North Park Blocks — promises to be a vital hub for art lovers and collectors interested in craft. As part of this exciting change, the Sales Gallery at Contemporary Crafts will position itself as the prime destination to buy quality craft in the Pacific Northwest. The very best examples of contemporary craft will be available for purchase. Contemporary Crafts Museum & Gallery invites professional artists from North America who are working in craft media (ceramic, fiber, wood, glass or metal) or using traditional craft techniques to submit documentation of their work to be considered for inclusion. Complete submission materials must be received by 5 pm on February 1, 2007.This is not a postmark deadline. Click here to download a PDF application
